In KDAB, UX and UI design are an integral part of our software development process. Our in-house design team creates user-interface designs that are easy to implement and great to use.

Our design process makes systematic use of techniques and methodologies for user-centered design. Steps include:

defining the application functionality and target group
creating user interaction flows, interaction design, and wire-frames
specifying usability architecture
designing mockups of the application's final look
usability testing and reviewing.

The UX/UI design assists in creating an essential relationship between the user and the product. Our design team aims to balance great design in a practical, usable application. So we:

take into account limitations arising from hardware constraints
consider usage environments
make sure what they design can be built with good performance
work closely with the developers to ensure the final result is visually pleasing and highly functional.

Our Qt UI designs are often created using QML, which allows the designer and developer to share the same language and provides a crossover area where code meets the software's visual aspect. This reduces software development time and effort, as the interaction also reduces confusion and duplication. This frees developers to concentrate on software functionality and gives the added advantage of easy demo creation.

Our team has many years of experience building software user interfaces for divergent target groups across multiple platforms, machines, and devices. All our designers have real-world software project experience and a good understanding of the technologies used.

An Example of User-Centric Software Development

F.X. Meiller, a leading European manufacturer of tipper trucks, faced user experience challenges with complex diagnostic systems that hindered drivers' ability to address issues in the field, leading to costly downtime. To resolve this, KDAB developed a user-friendly, Qt-based smartphone app that connects to the truck's diagnostics, featuring an icon-based interface for easy use on both Apple and Android devices. By engaging with drivers to understand their needs, KDAB ensured the app provided timely, relevant information, resulting in a smoother project execution and enhanced user experience.
