Kistler
Modernizing Kistler's Embedded Charge Amplifier UI
Kistler approached KDAB, during the development process of their new handheld measuring device 5811A aimed at providing easy and accessible quality control. The existing codebase was a legacy one, and the product required significant enhancements in terms of user interface, stability, performance and the capability to handle multi-measurement channel architecture.
A comprehensive approach
KDAB began its engagement by understanding the existing codebase to ensure a seamless transition. Our engineers became a part of the Kistler team and were instrumental in devising solutions to the challenges that the project presented.
The focus was on four main areas:
Multi-Channel Measurements
Implementing a multi-measurement channel architecture, which allowed for sensitive measurements in challenging spaces.
Performance and Stability
Prioritized performance optimization and stability improvements ensured that the product could reliably handle the demands of its intended use.
User Interface
The user interface was built with Qt and QML, resulting in a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
Product Variants
Maintaining two product variants within a single software solution, greatly enhanced the versatility of the product.
Levelling-up quality control
Kistler successfully brought the new 5811A handheld family of devices to market readiness with KDAB's help. These easy-to-handle, in-field measurement devices now allow users to carry out process parameter verification and quality control processes anywhere, even in cramped spaces. They can directly display the measurement curve and include a recording functionality to save measurement data on the device.
The new 5811A devices replace Kistler's proven 5995A charge amplifier and 5493 insulation tester. They have been optimized to cater to more complex needs, offering various additional functionalities combined with unique performance and signal quality.
In this project, KDAB demonstrated its ability to provide comprehensive software development services, from understanding legacy codebases to final product polishing.
