unu Scooter
Powering Urban Mobility with unu Scooters
unu, a pioneer in urban mobility, had an ambitious goal to enhance their successful line of easy-to-use, affordable electric scooters with a brand-new, digitally connected model. The challenge was to find a technological partner who could help them in creating an innovative, cross-platform technology for the display and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) of their next-generation scooters.
“Working with the KDAB team has been amazing since they have a lot of experience in development and came on board real fast”

Strategies and solutions by KDAB
Experienced in automotive-graded embedded engineering, KDAB stepped in to provide the necessary technological support to unu. KDAB recommended the use of the versatile Qt platform for the scooter's device, a system that promises adaptability across various operating systems and provides opportunities for future development reuse.
KDAB's extensive experience with Qt development enabled them to present a working prototype from the outset. The dashboard of the unu scooter was designed in three separate UI parts, each serving a specific function to display critical information to the driver.
The central part was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for a map view or a speedometer mode. To ensure optimal performance, the speedometer was implemented using shaders. A navigation framework that didn't have native Qt integration was also employed. However, KDAB customized the translation backend for all user-visible strings in the application, without affecting the UI code, catering to unu's translators' requirements.
A next generation electric scooter
The collaboration with KDAB proved to be a fruitful venture for unu. KDAB's development team was able to quickly adapt to the project's needs, providing potential for rapid scale-up when necessary. The synergy between KDAB engineers and unu's design and engineering teams resulted in an impressive product.
